Is your freebie not bringing in the right people? This might be why


This freebie business is actually more complicated than it seems, love.

Not all freebies are created equal and just putting a free thing in front of a subscription to your email list isn’t necessarily going to get people to want to join your community, or give you money.

On the flip side of this argument is the fact that a freebie can attract a hoard of people to download it, but they also might not be the right people.

Case in point— I at one point had a 5k months checklist as a freebie for this business. It actually got 20% more women interested and signing up for it than my current freebie — get fully booked in 30 days.

You might think to yourself well, wouldn’t you be crazy for changing something that got so many people in, Sara?


Here’s the thing, though— even though that freebie had 20% more people coming into it, they weren’t necessarily the right people. In fact, I was getting a LOT of bloggers and influencers into that list and digging the content,  but then falling out of my email funnel when I was talking about my #1 area of expertise— getting fully booked with clients. They didn’t HAVE 1:1 clients, so that part of my work was essentially useless to them. As soon as I created get fully booked in 30 days though, voila! Perfect fit dream clients started to book calls with me. THAT’s how easy it’s supposed to be.


Your freebie should essentially provide 3 different key points

  • Fit your target niche and what they need
  • Provide something that’s super easy to consume (I’m talking 10minutes easy)
  • Be something that can easily translate into your bigger offering of your 1:1 services

After you hit the 3 months above, make sure to name your freebie something that provides your community a super awesome outcome that they are dying to achieve. Sometimes it’s not even the optin that’s the issue but what you’re naming it!
